Litter clean-up morning
In Blixembosch, Saturday 17 September during the world cleanup day.
At least it would be dry and it was. That was a nice start to the morning.
We had collected the clearing equipment and put it ready for adults and children.
Gerard had made coffee and tea, made lemonade for the children and cut cake. We were all set.
The first came in. Some knew each other or got to know each other because they started stinging together. This morning is a great opportunity to get to know each other as local residents.
It’s always nice to see how eager the children are to pick up waste. There was even a little boy who woke up at 6 a.m. and asked, “Are we going to poke?”
The children are impatiently waiting for the parents to finish their coffee and cake so that they can enter the square. “I’ve already seen something there,” a boy sounds very enthusiastic.
The children put on gloves, put on a clearing vest, try out a skewer and already walk outside. ‘Potver3’, they think, ‘do they also want to take a photo first, that just stops’, but luckily the photographer is fast. The parents are absolutely fine with it. Maybe in Blixem flashen!, always fun!
Everyone noticed that the neighborhood was relatively ‘clean’. Previously there were a lot of plastic bottles. Now there were still a lot of cans, but especially a lot of cigarette butts.
Around 12 o’clock everyone came back and they could have a nice sandwich, coffee/tea, lemonade for the children and chat about the picked waste or just have a nice chat with the local residents about their street or the neighborhood. For the children there was again a ‘diploma’ because they were a great cleaner today. They were allowed to write their own name on it.
We are satisfied, we had a nice turnout again. And it has been promised by most that they will also help on the national clean-up day in March. That’s super nice!
