The Plateau in Blixembosch Buiten, already plenty of green!
In Blixembosch Buiten, construction activities on Het Plateau are in full swing. Nature doesn’t care much about that. In fact, there is a lot of flora and fauna that feels right at home in this ‘pioneering phase’. The Plateau is being developed sustainably, with a lot of attention for water, climate and biodiversity. There is already a lot to see, now that the water storage facilities have taken their definitive nature-friendly form, have been sown all around and the wall has been planted ecologically. This autumn we will still be planting native trees and shrubs at the water storage facilities.
Birds, butterflies and insects
Besides the already beautiful herbaceous vegetation, many butterflies and insects fly around. Many species of birds have also been spotted in this area: goldfinches, balancing on the sturdier herbs, the little plover (loves construction sites), house and warblers and the house martin, skimming over and drinking from the western water storage. More species of amphibians and small mammals are also expected to settle in the future.
Herb-rich vegetation
We manage both the shore and the water storage facilities in a natural way (extensive): mowing twice a year, during which we dispose of the clippings. This creates a herb-rich vegetation with attractive and varied plants. In addition, greenery and water help to make the living environment climate-proof. The different types of green provide shade, absorb water, retain it and evaporate it again (provides cooling). Green also absorbs CO2 (carbon dioxide) and captures particulate matter. And of course all this greenery contributes to a pleasant and healthy living environment.
Take a nice autumn walk through Blixembosch Buiten and enjoy the beautiful (autumn) greenery and the many bird species, insects, butterflies, rabbits and other small mammals!
