Picking mushrooms? You should pay attention to this.
Mushrooms are of vital importance to wild fauna. In a full country like the Netherlands collecting edible mushrooms from the wild is an extra burden on our nature. Pickers compete with wildlife. Officially it is mushroom picking banned in the Netherlands. Yet it is tolerated, provided you pick them on a small scale and keep them fresh mushrooms are for personal use (250 grams per person). So wild picking is not the bestway to protect nature and that is why we ask everyone to use as much of it as possible to refrain from wild picking. Can you safely eat mushrooms in the Netherlands?
The answer is no. Although there are few things in the Netherlands that can kill you mushrooms can easily do this. The most infamous mushroom you will encounter in the Netherlands you can find is the green tuber amanite. There are several poisonous mushrooms that can make you feel nauseous or…can make you seriously ill. A small number are even fatal. Protect nature. Make sure thatyou don’t pick the legally protected or locally endangered species that happens to be very similar to a common onekind. There are plenty of books, sites or apps from which you can gain knowledge. Only pick the varieties thatyou know and that are abundant in the area and respect nature!
Think of someone elseThere are people who want to enjoy nature in a different way; they want to see, smell, and…to feel. In short, ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy nature in their own way.
