Ancient Blixembosch
Today, November 25, 2023, it is exactly 34 years ago that we came to live in the new Blixembosch district. Not new, because the district already consisted of a few farms and the ‘Philips district’. Especially the Boerdereike, the shop with fresh products, was already known to many. Later it turned out that there was already a village called Blixembosch in prehistoric times. The contours of this were uncovered by archaeologists. Initially, Blixembosch belonged to Son. When the neighbourhood association celebrated its 25th anniversary, Piet van den Boom, city poet at the time, wrote a beautiful poem about Blixembosch. The text can be requested from/through the editors. We were one of the first in the new neighborhood, which later continued to grow to now about 3500 homes.
Soon, a group of residents came together to form a neighborhood association.
We received a survey in the mail asking what we needed if we wanted to cooperate. That’s how I came to Blixemflitsen! rightly. And at the welcoming committee. And with the board. And they soon knew where to find me for all kinds of odd jobs, such as Blixemkids activities, Outdoor Play Day, Family Spectacle (yes, I also cleaned toilets and baked fries!). Even once we played a play with a few others after which we baked pancakes for the children.
When my mother needed extra care, I was a little less active for a short time. Two members of the editorial board are still active: Marja Vugs and Margreeth Haagsman have been members of the editorial board for 33 years now. Kudos! 16 years ago, I returned to the editorial office and was immediately appointed editor-in-chief. It was a lot of fun to contribute to a beautiful neighborhood magazine 9 times a year. Less fun to stop again. Why stop? We are going to move to another place, outside the neighborhood. Time for a new phase, as it is so beautifully called.
The editors of Blixemflitsen! has now been expanded with two new enthusiastic Blixemboschers, Cora van Soerland and Frank Gommers.
In the meantime, I have said goodbye to both the editorial board and the neighborhood association.
From the editors and their partners in the VTA. I was praised and received a special pendant for my forged in the shape of a Lightning Flash, the logo of Blixemflitsen!
I was very happy with this of course!
And if that wasn’t enough, I was put in the spotlight again during the volunteer party! In appreciation, I was appointed Honorary Member of the Blixembosch neighborhood association. How special it is that you enjoy doing all kinds of fun things and are rewarded for it!
Ab and I have lived very well in Blixembosch all these years. What makes this neighborhood special is the connection. Nowhere else is so much organized as here. Nowhere else are there so many volunteers active who make this neighborhood so special. Of the many volunteers, some have been volunteers from the very beginning.
I would like to thank everyone with whom I have collaborated, chatted, laughed etc.
